CMA Engineers is assisting The Nature Conservancy and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation in replacing two undersized tidal culverts on Squamscott Road between Route 108 and Chisholm Farm Drive. Each crossing currently has a single 18-inch reinforced concrete pipe that restricts tidal flow and affects upstream wetlands. The project includes hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations, alternatives analysis, and design of replacement culverts that meet Tier 4 stream crossing standards and New Hampshire Coastal Flood Risk Guidance.
Key Elements:
- Hydrologic and tidal hydraulic analysis of the Squamscott watershed
- Alternatives analysis and design of improved tidal culverts
- Coordination with coastal wetland and flood risk standards
- Culvert and roadway reconstruction within previously disturbed areas
- Utility coordination and grading modifications to improve drainage
Culvert construction will remove existing structures, restore natural tidal flow, and enhance ecological connectivity within the estuarine system.
