CMA Engineers was retained to design a Federally-Funded Congestion Mitigation
and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) project, to continue the Salem Bike-Ped
Corridor. The segment begins south of Rockingham Park Boulevard, follows the
Lawrence & Manchester railroad corridor, and crosses Cluff Crossing Road. Sidewalks
extend along the south side of Cluff Crossing Road to connect with the existing
network, with a new signalized crossing of Route 28. The project included grading
the former rail bed, constructing a 12-foot-wide paved multiuse path with gravel
shoulders, and providing safe pedestrian crossings.
The 1,600-foot trail is located between Route 28 and Rockingham Plaza. Associated
efforts included ADA-compliant facility design, traffic and signal analysis, permitting/
NEPA, and compliance with NHDOT LPA requirements.
Key Elements:
- Signalized crossing at Route 28 and crossing of Cluff Crossing Road
- Sidewalk extension to connect with existing network
- ADA-compliant facility design and traffic/signal analysis
- Coordination with NHDOT, utilities, and abutters
- Public involvement and permitting/NEPA process
