The Union Street and Willard Avenue project modernized underground utilities and transformed the “complete street” corridor with safer, people-focused streetscape features.
Key Elements:
-
Sewer separation within tight right-of-way. Crews relocated back-lot service connections on Middle Street and eliminated the combined sewer between Union and Cabot Streets -
New storm-drain connection. A dedicated drain line now links Middle Street to Miller Avenue, fully separating stormwater from sanitary flow -
Upgraded water infrastructure. All water mains and services within the project limits were replaced to improve reliability and fire protection -
Resolved chronic drainage problems. Redesigned roadway profiles and inlets to keep pavement and sidewalks free of standing water -
Continuous, ADA-compliant sidewalks. Disjointed, deteriorated sidewalks have been replaced with a continuous, accessible pedestrian network
